President's Page Each and every day in Columbus Georgia there are men and women who pin on a badge, kiss their loved ones good-bye, and travel into our community in order to serve the needs of everyone. Their job consists of serving the good citizens of our community by preventing or protecting those within the boundaries of Muscogee County from crime, mischief and other types of incidents and disasters. Many times, these modern day paladins place themselves between the victims and perpetrators in order to insure that harm does not befall anyone. Many more times than not, these everyday heroes accomplish their tasks without having to cause harm to anyone. You may ask yourself; “Who protects those brave souls while they are out protecting us?” The answer to that question is easy; the Fraternal Order of Police protects the men and women of law enforcement. |

The FOP protects the safety of these men and women by educating the local government concerning what type of equipment and training is required to insure that these law enforcement officers can accomplish their missions. When small local governments and law enforcement agencies do not have the funds to purchase bullet-resistant vests for their officers, the FOP will purchase that equipment for them. The FOP protects the security of these men and women by working with, and at times fighting with, local and state governments to insure that the working conditions and benefits are what they should be based on the current economical conditions that exist within the community. Many times this is accomplished by bringing information and issues to the State, Local and Federal Governments. The FOP has been fighting for an Officer’s Bill of Rights for many years and the rights that the officers should have to sit down with their leadership and negotiate a fair salary and benefit package. The FOP protects the Constitutional Rights of Law Enforcement Officers by providing good, solid legal advice and protection by way of our National FOP legal defense plan. The FOP plan protects our members from erroneous Criminal, Administrative or Civil actions, which may occur during the performance of their lawful duties. The Fraternal Order of Police is the world's largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, with more than 325,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges. The FOP is the voice of those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities. We are committed to improving the working conditions of law enforcement officers and the safety of those we serve through education, legislation, information, community involvement, and employee representation. No one knows the dangers and the difficulties faced by today's police officers better than another officer, and no one knows police officers better than the Fraternal Order of Police. |
