Aug. 19, 1989:
Officer MacPhail was shot and killed while working off-duty on a security detail at the Greyhound Bus terminal. He was found in the parking lot connected to a Burger King restaurant on West Oglethorpe.

August 23, 1989:
Troy Davis surrendered to authorities and was arrested.

November 15, 1989:
Troy Davis was indicted in the Superior Court of Chatham County for the murder of Mark MacPhail.

August 28, 1991:
Troy Davis was convicted of murdering Mark MacPhail.

February 26, 1993:
Georgia Supreme Court affirmed the conviction and sentence

March 15, 1994:
Habeas corpus petition filed with state court.

September 9, 1997:
State court denied habeas petition.

November 13, 2000:
Georgia Supreme Court affirmed state court’s denial of habeas relief.

December 14, 2001:
Habeas corpus petition submitted to US District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, Savannah Division.

May 13, 2004:
US District Court denied Davis federal habeas corpus relief.

September 7, 2005:
Eleventh Circuit heard oral arguments.

September 26, 2006:
Eleventh Circuit affirmed the denial of federal habeas corpus relief.

April 11, 2007:
Davis’s final appeal submitted to US Supreme Court.

June 25, 2007:
US Supreme Court denied request for appeal.

June 29, 2007:
Chatham County Superior Court issues execution warrant for July 17-24.

July 5, 2007:
Department of Corrections sets execution for 7 PM on July 17.

July 16, 2007:
State Board of Pardons and Paroles granted a 90-day stay in execution.

July 17, 2007:
Execution was originally scheduled for 7 PM in Jackson, Ga., before being delayed.

Nov. 13, 2007:
Georgia Supreme Court considers the appeal.

March 26, 2008:
Georgia Supreme Court denies Davis' request for a new trial.

September 3, 2008:
State of Georgia sets an execution date of September 23, 2008.

September 22, 2008:
Georgia Supreme Court denies Davis' motion for stay of execution.
